here’s a lovely little illustration of our burg of echo park, circa 1909. more on the big map blog.

LA observed has a video of the newly-reopened angeles crest highway, which has been closed for the past 18 months following the station fire. looks like the restoration included lots of newly-topped road.

  1. I love the old maps. When we lived in our 1890s Victorian cottage in San Jose, I collected maps from the time. It was so amazing to see how our block was one of the last in the city, and beyond that was nothing but farmland and orchards. It’s almost mind-blowing when you look at the density today.

    1. i love them too. in this one, the area where i live is just a grassy hill, but i love seeing echo park lake already in place.
